Jamie Rogers

Experience June 2020 – Present Head of Recruitment and Community • Management • The Difference (Education Charity), London

In this post, I am in charge of managing key stakeholders, investors, and funders for a national education charity. I manage key relations with large senior government officials, MPs and several local authorities and large MATs such as Ark, Inspiration Trust, Dixons, Oasis, and others. My work involves managing comms, social media and creating positive brand image while sourcing opportunities for national media. I use my experience as a qualified headteacher to support knowledge of the education sphere and how to successfully grow the charity influence in the sector. I also oversee fundraising and budget for the Difference Leaders Programme, a significant part of the charity budget. Responsible for the annual recruitment of the cohort of Difference Leaders, I’m also fully aware of best practice in educational recruitment and safer recruitment policies.

September 2017 – September 2020 Associate Headteacher • Senior Leadership • The Welldon Park Academy, Harrow

I was headteacher of the Welldon Park Academy, originally by secondment through Harrow Council. Joining the school as it embarked on a period of recovery following a special measures judgement, I was influential in the rapid transformation of behaviour, safeguarding and ethos at the school with OFSTED labelling me as someone ‘who leads by example’ and someone who had secured ‘rapid transformation’. I led the school through academisation, secured wholesale staffing changes and set the annual budget. I became adept at working at governor and trustee level. I was involved in restructuring the Speech and Language specialist resource at the school, expanding it to have capacity for eleven pupils. I was responsible for introducing a whole school counselling partnership that significantly improved SEMH provision across the school. I left the school through relocation to Warrington from London and the opportunity to work from home after the birth of my youngest daughter.

Head of Safeguarding & Strategy

Disclosure and Barring Service – Liverpool                                   April 2015 – to date

I have functional responsibility for several key teams in DBS Policy and Research, Communications and Media & Partnerships and Engagement as well as personal responsibility for development of the DBS strategy.

  • I worked with the DBS Board to develop and deliver the DBS 2025 Strategy, this included procuring a crowd sourcing platform and running a series of online conversations with over 1100 DBS staff on the vision, values and objectives for inclusion in the strategy.
  • I have been the link person for DBS with the Independent Inquiry for Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) and have drafted numerous witness statements on DBS policy, procedures and also some specific historical cases. This has involved gathering large amounts of data, deciding what is pertinent and drafting statements in an accurate but easily understandable way. I have also supported a DBS director giving oral evidence to the Inquiry twice. I set up and ran mock sessions to ensure the director was fully conversant with the material and able to portray the work of DBS positively and accurately, both events we successful.
  • In March 2020 I worked with colleagues at Department of Health and Social Care to develop a fast track check of the DBS barred lists in support of the emerging COVID-19 pandemic. I was able to find a way for DBS to do these checks with 24 hours thus enabling people wanting to work in the NHS etc. being able to start work within days rather than weeks. Since March 2020 over 330,000 checks have been completed.
  • I am currently chair of the DBS silver command response to COVID-19. This has involved ensuring that all departments within DBS work together to ensure our buildings are COVID secure for the staff who have to work in the office, ensuring staff working from home have the necessary equipment to work effectively and safely. Under my leadership we have had to amend a number of HR policies, build in protocols for managing positive tests and ensure we can still deliver our core products.
